We’ve changed the way hashtags work
Upfront and quickly… you’re going to have to add the hashtags twitter user in order to have hashtags work. The track feature we were relying on isn’t going to scale well. Once you have added the twitter user, it will follow you automatically. That will allow us to track what you are saying on twitter and index your tweets. We feel pretty confident that the bot is stable enough to go ahead and get this show on the road.
That said, I guess we’ve finally come to the point that we can say… hashtags.org has officially launched.

One feature I’d often like is “see all tweets from my friends which are tagged X” — is that in the pipeline somewhere, anybody?
December 14, 2007 at 3:58 pm
There may be a way to do that down the road. We’d have to pull in a list of your friends and then compare it to our database of users and then filter on that. It’s not out of the realm of things we’d like to get done, but it’s probably something we’ll do down the road.
We just need to come up with a good way to do it.

If you want to use the Terraminds search API to build upon, it would not be necessary for people to follow a twitter user. You would instantly get all hashtags into the system: e.g. http://terraminds.com/twitter/query?query=%23sixwords
API docs are here: http://terraminds.com/twitter/api.html
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask (support at terraminds.com).

brilliant! I wonder if you can grab a user’s history as I’ve been using the hashtags nanoformat for some time now, but sadly only new tweets will be indexed.

Awesome stuff, guys 🙂 This looks fantastic!
@Steph: I don’t know if they plan to do it or not, but with the way they have it setup (as you can get the feed of any particular tag, etc) you can probably use Yahoo! Pipes to do what you’re describing. Don’t quote me on that exactly, though, as I haven’t looked deep enough into it to say for sure.

Hi, is the service working?
I’ve added many tweets with tag #argentina (and other friends did the same) and didn’t appears in tag list.
December 20, 2007 at 6:34 am
@Leech, we’re manually having to turn notifications on after you follow us. I was at dinner when you added us. Sorry about that.
December 20, 2007 at 11:14 am
Oh, sorry!
Hope you’ve been enjoyed your dinner!
Thank you!

Pretty much mirroring Paul Downey’s comment that it would be nice if the bot scanned your last 20 or so posts (or whatever is convenient) to get some of the existing tags.

If Twitter decides to limit the number of users you we can follow, will that affect your service?

hashtags.org home page refers to itself, not to this blog?
docs on tag creation, amount of time to publish/see a tag would be helpfull . timeouts today. frustrating. trying to establish #h5n1, no go.
